Surf Check: Plymouth and Bourne

A nor'easter passed us by at low tide, so we went out at high tide to see if the waves were any good.

I got held up a bit at my night job, limiting our reach geographically. This is Sagamore Beach, facing Sandwich.

Ideally, we would be further up the South Shore, at a beach like Duxbury or Scituate with higher surf.

Facing Plymouth... this was what nor'easter photographers call a PBS (Plymouth, Bourne, Sandwich) run. If we had more time, we'd have done the CEO (Chatham, Eastham, Orleans) run or the similar CHEW (Chatham, Harwich, Eastham, Wellfleet) run. The Scituate and Marshfield focus gives us the S&M run, while leaving from Bourne and starting in Duxbury upgrades it to a BDSM run. A LBQT run means Let's Bloody Quit This.

Enough with Sagamore...

...Manomet awaits!

Even weak surf looks good from up in a cliff.

Sometimes, a Surf Check article means that dangerous surf is happening. Sometimes, it's just to let you know not to worry.

This nor'easter was a bit of an anomaly. Normally, we don't get ocean storms after mid-April. A worse storm would have ruined lawn repairs up and down the coastlines of the South Shore and Cape Cod.

This storm, following 40 days and 40 nights of rain, was definitely a Freak. Much of New England got May 14th snow from this.

Plymouth Harbor Fog

Fog was rolling in as I did some shopping in Plymouth.

Play Misty For Me

It was less to the north...

...but got worse as the camera angle pivoted towards Manomet.

It got bad (above), and then really bad (below)...

Gerard Farm Opens In Manomet

After a long wait, Gerard Farm opened their Manomet store this week.

GĂ©rard Farm has been a culinary institution in Marshfield for generations.

Their specialty is turkey, both in sandwich form as well as the roasted Thanksgiving-style meal.

They also have frozen turkey pies, and Cranberry County Magazine Is 100% in favor of more pie.

You can put a flower pot on the other end now that Gerard's is up and running.

They have other stuff to eat, as well. You will never get Tummy Boredom from Gerard's.

I've tried sneaking one of these past a high school girlfriend back in the day as my own cooking, but she was a Marshfield girl and I got stone cold busted.

They have side orders and dessert handled, too... they make perhaps the best stuffing in Massachusetts.

I was going to sneak behind the counter and get a picture of these cupcakes without the glare of the glass, but I didn't want to get in trouble and have to go to Marshfield for a good turkey sandwich.

"It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday..."

They don't approve.

Hurricane Inundation Map: Plymouth

The maps are a bit blurry, because they download poorly and we were forced to take pictures of the monitor.

They work like this...

Any area that is colored in means that inundation is possible during a hurricane. FEMA estimates as to what hurricane intensity would be needed to flood certain spots are shown by color differencs.

Light green = Category 1

Dark green = Category 2

Yellow = Category 3

Red = Category 4
